Third and fourth grade musical

Dear Parents and Families of Third and Fourth Grade Musical participants!

My name is Meg Sullivan and I'm excited to be directing the musical this spring with Ms. Baird, who will serve as the musical director. I'm the director of the Manton Avenue Project in Providence, and recently directed You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown for the Middle School in February.

We are so excited to get started on our after school adventure staging The Rainbow Fish with the Lower School! This musical is based on the wonderful children's book of the same title by Marcus Pfister, and was the recipient of the 2020 Distinguished Play Award by the American Association for Theatre in Education.

We have some important details to share before we get started next week.

Audition week and meet-and-greets

The first week after vacation, we will have meet-n-greet opportunities for parents and students, and auditions! This will be a chance for your kids to get to know me, and for me to get to know them! We will teach them everything they need to know for the audition. No need for anyone to prepare anything in advance.

Monday, March 27th
3:20-5:00: fourth graders information session
(we’ll learn a song for auditions, talk about the show, and play theater games)
5:00-5:30: fourth grade parents join for meet-n-greet in the Wales Theater

Tuesday, March 28th
3:20-5:00: third grader information session
(we’ll learn a song for auditions, talk about the show, and play theater games)
5:00-5:30: third grade parents join for meet-n-greet in the Wales Theater

Wednesday, March 29th
3:20-5pm: fourth grade auditions

Thursday, March 30th
3:20-5pm: third grade auditions

For anyone who is unable to meet during those times, I will be happy to host a Zoom meet-n-greet on Tuesday at 5:45 (for both grades). Please respond to msullivan@gordonschool.org if you’d like to attend and I will send you the Zoom information.

Rehearsal schedule

For the first few weeks, fourth graders will be meeting on Mondays and Wednesdays, and third graders will be meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Rehearsals will meet from 3:20-5pm.

Students will be dismissed to Gators and can be picked up there.

When we get to the week before the show, we will all meet together each day. I will create a google doc with a calendar that I will share with you!

Parent volunteers

If you are interested in volunteering for the show, that would be wonderful! We are especially looking for help with costumes. Do you like to sew? Let me know! We are also looking for costume, hair and make-up, and backstage helpers on the nights of the show to keep kids focused and prepared.

Ms. Baird and I are so excited to get started. Please let us know if you have any questions!

All the best,
Meg
