All-state musicians
In 2010, Kayla Campbell ’11 chose to take a chance and audition for the the Rhode Island Music Educators All State Music festival.
In the years since then, sixty-eight Gordon students have passed the auditions and been invited to participate.
The festival pulls together the finest seventh, eighth and ninth grade musicians from throughout the state. Each year, hundreds of students audition. Each student's audition consisted of performing required repertoire, sight-reading, tonal memory for singers, and scales and arpeggios for instrumentalists.
These students learn and practice four or five pieces of challenging music, attend multiple daylong rehearsals in the winter, then, perform in public at Veterans Memorial Auditorium (or, during COVID, online)
Since 2010, dozens of Gordon graduates have also made it into the festival, either alongside the Gordon students or in the older tier of the festival.
