Susan Hodgin grew up in North Carolina. She has a Bachelor and Master’s of Music in Piano Performance from the University of North Carolina and the University of Illinois.

Susan has been teaching at Gordon since 2010 and believes that music is an essential subject. It fully engages the mind and provides an avenue to explore cultures, history, and the intersection between the arts and social justice. Most importantly, music touches the human spirit. She is grateful to be in a community that fully supports the arts and encourages every student to find their voice.

In addition to her work at Gordon, Susan’s range of experience includes: working on a farm, playing the French horn in the American Youth Orchestra’s European Tour, playing piano for a comedy improv show in Chicago, advocating and working for women’s rights and gun control, conducting band, orchestra, and chorus in public schools, and singing with the Gracenote Singers (bedside singing for the end of life).

Susan is happily married and is a proud parent of two wonderful children.
