Amy Cohen

Amy studied Art History at Harpur College, State University of New York, Binghamton and received her MFA in Painting/Printmaking at RISD. She discovered her passion for working with children and art through her experiences working in museum education. Prior to joining the Gordon faculty in 1991, Amy worked in the Education Department at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

At Gordon, Amy combines her love of art history and studio art work in her teaching. She believes in the importance of giving children the opportunity to develop their ideas by working with their hands as a source of rich intellectual, emotional and spiritual inner resources. She is consistently inspired by student artwork and the natural affinity children have as artists.

Amy is grateful for the opportunity to refine her program and skills over many years and see so many students emerge and flourish as thinkers and makers.

When not in her art studio, Amy enjoys gardening, reading, painting, rowing, and serving as an Orton-Gillingham tutor.
