Seventh grade: preparing for September

Seventh grade summer work

June 2023

Dear Rising Seventh Grader,

Happy summer! There is work we need you to do this summer in order to stay in practice for the year ahead.

Math

Your teachers from this past year prepared a math packet for you to complete before school starts in September. You can print this out at home, or look for it in a mailing coming from the school in early July. Mr. Griffin can also get you additional  paper copies if you write him at ggriffin@gordonschool.org. Your new teacher next year will expect you to have this work complete by the first day of school, so please bring your completed work with you that day.

We recommend that you do a little of this work every few days over the summer, or maybe pick a day each week to work for an hour on it. This way, you will keep these concepts and skills fresher in your mind, which should make the start of the year easier.

If you have trouble remembering how to do a particular kind of problem, just do the best you can and show your work. Your teacher will understand if you forget things or make mistakes, but do try each problem!

You can also check the Math in Focus website to review skills or concepts. We hope this practice is helpful for you this summer. Please contact Mr. Kravitz if you have any questions.

Reading and Spanish

The goal for Middle School students this summer is that they do plenty of reading, and that they enjoy what they read. Ms. Martindale has compiled a generous reading list full of titles recommended by your peers, your teachers, and Gordon administrators.

There are required titles for all grades on the Required Reading page linked off the Middle School reading list. In addition to the required reading for humanities and Spanish, Middle School students should read two to five books of their choosing from this booklet or from other sources.

Have a wonderful summer!
