Math Club

Occasionally, third graders who have had exposure to higher level math and can work independently and persevere on problem sets have participates in Math Club, on the recommendation of the math specialist or their homeroom teacher.  

The club will meet from September 10th to May 28th There is no cost to join nor any fees for the competitions.
 
The fourth to sixth grade meetings, 3:35-4:30 on Thursdays, are structured around preparing for Mathematical Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools. More information about MOEMS is at www.moems.org.
 
The fifth to eighth grade meetings, Tuesdays at 7:30-8am, are more general math challenges.

1).  The only way that 10 can be written as the sum of 4 different counting numbers is 1 + 2 + 3 + 4. In how many different ways can 15 be written as the sum of 4 different counting numbers?  Time: 5 minutes

2).  Hannah gives clues about her six-digit secret number: 
• It is the same number if you read it from right to left. 
• The number is a multiple of 9.
• Cross off the first and last digits. The only prime factor of the remaining four-digit number is 11.
