The Big Disconnect: Protecting Childhood and Family Relationships in the Digital Age
Thursday, January 10th, 6pm
Catherine Steiner-Adair is a clinical psychologist, school consultant, author, and teacher whose professional life is devoted to working with children, parents, and schools. Her latest book, The Big Disconnect: Protecting Childhood and Family Relationships in the Digital Age, has lessons that impact directly on the heart of Gordon’s mission.
In her presentation, Dr. Steiner-Adair will take an in-depth look at how the internet and the digital revolution are profoundly changing childhood and family dynamics, and offers solutions parents can use to successfully shepherd their children through the technological wilderness.
Her visit is part of Gordon's ongoing commitment to supporting students and their families with a forward-thinking health and wellness curriculum. Gordon's health and wellness classes begin in third grade, and include age-appropriate lessons in digital citizenship and the health impacts of gaming, texting and social media. As in any other Gordon class, students are empowered to self-advocate, have open and honest discussions, and make choices that are right for them.
Gordon's commitment to student health extends far beyond the classroom, too. More on the connection between mind, body and heart at Gordon is at www.gordonschool.org/outdoors
