Kwame Alexander

Kwame Alexander will be at Gordon as the twelfth annual Karla Harry Visiting Author, presenting to students in Kindergarten to eighth grade, accompanied by musician Randy Preston. The visit coincides with the annual GCA Book Fair, and Alexander will be signing books at the fair on Tuesday. Alexander is a poet, educator, and the New York Times bestselling author of twenty-eight books, including Swing, Solo and Rebound, the follow-up to his Newbery medal-winning middle grade novel The Crossover.

Oge Mora
Meet the author

Thursday, November 29th, 3:30-5pm
Oge Mora is a Providence artist whose first book, Thank You, Omu!, has reviewers and readers hailing her as a major new talent. She first came to national attention for the cover of Shaking Things Up: 14 Young Women who Changed the World. Careful readers may even notice some Providence neighborhoods in her illustrations. Her visit will be a highlight of day three of the GCA Book Fair.

Rodney López
Family Dance Day

Saturday, December 15th, 10am
Rodney López of Dancing Classrooms, seen in the documentary Mad Hot Ballroom, uses ballroom dancing to teach middle school students lessons that apply throughout their lives. He’s presented this lesson at Lincoln Center; now he brings it to Rhode Island. He’ll lead all ages through the basics of merengue, tango, and swing before letting loose on the dance floor to high-energy tunes.

Catherine Steiner-Adair is a clinical psychologist, school consultant, author, and teacher whose professional life is devoted to working with children, parents, and schools. Her latest book, The Big Disconnect: Protecting Childhood and Family Relationships in the Digital Age, has lessons that impact directly on the heart of Gordon’s mission.
