On many Friday mornings throughout the year, Assistant Heads Alethea Dunham-Carson and Veronica Jutras, along with GCA leadership, will host conversations ranging from follow-ups after parent education nights to ideas on how parents can help students make the most of the feedback in progress reports.

Gordon has several affinity groups for parents that meet in the evenings throughout the year. They are run by parent volunteers in partnership with Gordon staff.

Parents of Students of Color is a space for Gordon parents to discuss the distinct issues, needs, and experiences of students of color in independent schools.

Facing Whiteness: The Antiracism Working Group for White Caregivers is for white parents to examine their own racial identities and privilege, to uncover and challenge their own biases, and to develop antiracism parenting skills.

The Neurodivergence Family Community is for parents of students with learning differences who want to connect with one another and members of the academic support team.

The Rainbow Family Alliance is the informal network of Gordon families who are part of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and intersex communities.

Belonging in Adoption is a space for families connected to adoption through its many forms to gather in community, support identity development, and celebrate family diversity.

8:30am in person and noon over Zoom, running throughout the year
The long-running Ages and Stages series will resume in the fall. Date are on the calendar. At these friendly and informal meetings, the school counselor leads a discussion on the developmental stages that children experience at each grade level. The meetings allow parents to strengthen their connections with the student support team and with the families of their children’s peers.

For caregiver education nights, Gordon organizes a guest speaker, a panel discussion or a workshop on a subject impacting students and families.

At the State of the School, Head of School Meredith deChabert presents an overview of where Gordon is and where Gordon is going, covering everything from classroom practice and strategic planning to the financial outlook for the school.

December
Gordon’s Book Fair brings distinguished authors from all genres to campus to work directly with students. Caregivers are often welcome to sit in on these presentations - visit www.gordonschool.org/bookfair for a look at last year's event.

Spring
This program brings professional artists into Gordon’s classrooms. Students work alongside these artists, who lead them through projects that mirror the process of the artist’s own work.

As part of the residency, each visiting artist gives a presentation to all three divisions of the school and to parents and caregivers so that parents, alumni and the general public can share the Gordon students’ experience. Learn more at www.gordonschool.org/visitingartist
 

Child care is offered for free during many evening events. Check the calendar for details on how to sign up.

It costs Gordon money to staff this child care. In order to keep this money from going to waste, anyone who signs up for evening care but does not end up using it will be will be charged $35 (Gordon's daily drop in rate) to help cover staffing and costs.
