Grandfriends' Day

above: for Grandfriends' Day 2021, students flooded mailboxes with messages of love

Gordon's annual Grandfriends' Day has been an essential part of the Gordon calendar for decades, giving students the opportunity to share their school experience with someone special in their life.

This year, Grandfriends’ Day is on Friday, May 9th at 9:00am to 12:00pm.

It's a fun event in itself, and it also serves Gordon's larger goals of making sure school connects with students' lives, and encouraging students to bring their full selves—their lives and experiences—into the classroom.

Grandfriends' Day has brings hundreds of guests to campus. Anyone in a child's life can be a grandfriend. The important thing is that each child has someone to share the day with. This can be a neighbor, an aunt or an uncle, a babysitter, a grandparent, a dear friend—a grandfriend is someone special to your Gordon student.

Gordon’s grandfriends are extraordinarily strong supporters of the school’s annual giving efforts—far beyond the average for independent elementary schools. Learn more about how the Gordon Fund fuels Gordon’s work at www.gordonschool.org/give.

Grandfriends’ Day invitations were mailed during spring break. If you have any questions about Grandfriends' Day, contact Anne Marie Ticaric at aticaric@gordonschool.org or 401 434-3833 x110

A parent's guide to Grandfriends' Day

The day begins at 9am. There is valet parking in the front circle, and we urge guests to use it. Early arrivals should head to the Kindergarten and first grade playground, in front of the dining hall and the Nelson Center entrance.

Registration runs from 9am to 9:30am by the Wales Theater. Registration is key. Each family’s schedule is different, and registration allows staff and volunteers to give guests the details they need for a great visit.

The formal program ends at 11:30am and guests and students are welcome to go outside and explore the campus, and participate in several open-ended activities until noon.

Classroom teachers will assume that your child has permission to leave with their grandfriend, unless you let them know otherwise.

Cars can be retrieved from the valets in the front circle. If you are coming to campus at noon to pick up your child, please do not use the front circle; park and walk up to the front of the school, and meet your child’s classroom teacher or advisor there.

After school programs, including Gators and YAP, will not run on Grandfriends’ Day.
