The Gordon School

Theater

Our approach to the arts holds a central truth: that every student is capable of, and deserves to find, their voice through creative expression. We know arts education stimulates cognitive development and encourages critical thinking. We know involvement in the arts develops self-discipline, decision- making, safe risk-taking and team-building. We believe every student deserves highest-quality arts experiences, and our spaces are physical proof!

Theater and performance begin with creative play in early childhood, and become more formal in lower school, with an after school musical open to all and performed for the Gordon Community. Past plays have ranged from original work created by a Brown/Trinity MFA playwright, to an exuberant production of Seussical! In middle school, opportunities for performance abound: there are theater classes during the day, an after school play and a full-scale musical, and a series of Open Mic nights throughout the year.

Students are carefully supported as they run every aspect of these immersive experiences, from onstage to backstage. Our programs are careful and lovingly curated to ensure that the arts are a vital part of each student’s day, thereby building a lifelong connection to artistic expression.
