Honoring Milly Massey
Dear Gordon Community,
I am writing today to invite you to a reception honoring Milly Massey, Gordon's Director of Visual and Performing Arts.
Hundreds of you have been profoundly touched by Ms. Massey's work during her fourteen years of leadership at Gordon, and you all are welcome to come to campus and celebrate her on Friday, November 18th, from 5pm to 6pm.
The reception, which precedes the Middle School play performance of Qui Nguyen’s play She Kills Monsters, will include light bites, refreshments, and a brief speaking program. Guests are welcome, though not expected, to stay for the performance at 6:30pm.
Please RSVP using the form below.
Since arriving at Gordon, first as a parent, then as a volunteer, and finally as Director of Visual and Performing Arts, Ms. Massey has had a front-row seat for a renaissance in Gordon's arts programming. She has helped connect the arts to curriculum in dozens of important ways, bringing visual and performing arts skills into essential lessons as diverse as the annual schoolwide Beloved Community Day, the fourth grade town meetings, and the seventh grade poetry study and Night of Words. Along the way, she has cleared the path for every student to engage in theater, maintaining an inclusive casting policy in the after school productions and opening new venues for experimentation like the No Fear Friday Open Mic. Throughout, she has stewarded the Wales Theater tirelessly and thoughtfully, ensuring that students, teachers and guests to campus all feel at home in the space.
If you would like to share a written reflection with Ms. Massey or submit an appreciation video in her honor, please either send submissions to me at email@example.com, include them in the RSVP form below, mail them to 45 Maxfield Ave. at my attention, or drop them at Gordon’s front desk.
Gifts can also be made in recognition and celebration of Ms. Massey's legacy through the Gordon Fund at www.gordonschool.org/give. Please direct your gift to the arts (as one of nine Gordon Fund giving areas) in her honor. On November 18th, I would love to be able to announce the total amount given to the arts program in her name.
I am sure that this community will also find other, smaller-scale ways to say farewell to Ms. Massey. If you are planning a tribute and would like me to help coordinate your work with that of others, please reach out!
Assistant Head of School for Institutional Advancement and Community Engagement
PS: We will also be saying farewell to Administrative Assistant Kim O'Donnell later this year. Please save the date to honor her: Tuesday, December 6th at 5:30pm
We need to stick to a pretty tight schedule on Friday. There will be a speaking program that will begin at 5:05 on the dot, and Milly will need to leave to tend to the performance by 6pm.
Doors will open at 4:55. Please enter using the front office, under the bell tower. The Nelson Center entrance will be busy with after school programs.
