Summer 2021 at Gordon
Since 1910, Gordon’s progressive academic program has put children, and their voices, at the center of learning. For seven weeks this summer, we look beyond the school year to expand our mission-driven, child-centered programming. The result is a diverse offering of camps that are playful, thoughtful, creative, and fun. Our nurturing and compassionate staff (including Gordon faculty) are ready to engage your child, encouraging them to venture safely outside their comfort zone as they explore Gordon’s twelve-acre campus.
Gordon has been open for on-campus learning since September 2020, offering rich experiences for ages three to fourteen, from 7:30am to 5:30pm every day. Students have been in small, stable cohorts, with dedicated indoor spaces and bathroom facilities, and Gordon's spacious campus has allowed for outdoor learning and playing in every season. The result has been a happy, healthy year spent learning together, with a wealth of hard-won lessons that Gordon's leadership can draw on to make this a fun-filled, safe summer for your child.
Conveniently located just off of Route 195 in East Providence, Gordon's scenic twelve-acre campus features over 70% open space and is filled with inspiring, age-appropriate, and flexible spaces both indoors and out:
Two light-filled art studios
Field house with climbing wall and courts for basketball and volleyball
Theater with state of the art sound and lighting system
Spacious dining hall
A stream and a pond
Four outdoor classrooms
Two athletic fields
A nature trail around the edge of campus
Indoor spaces are all air conditioned, and the HVAC system is equipped with MERV-13 filters with CO2 monitors to ensure excellent air exchanges.
Summer at Gordon will include three two-week sessions for all families:
Session 1: Weeks of July 5 and July 12
Session 2: Weeks of July 19 and July 26
Session 3: Weeks of August 2 and August 9
There will be an additional week for families of Gordon students beginning August 23rd.
Camp runs from 8am to 4pm each day. The day will begin and end with a half hour of free play and student-driven choice time, with scheduled activities running from 8:30am to 3:30pm. There are no earlier drop off or later pick up times available.
Summer at Gordon is open to students who are entering nursery (age three) to ninth grade in fall 2021. All campers must be potty trained.
The price is $700 for each two-week session. This price is all-inclusive and there will be no additional charges
Camp deposits are non-refundable. Camp fees will be refunded for cancellations before June 1st. Summer at Gordon will issue a full refund (including deposit) if a camp is cancelled due to COVID-19. Campers who are unable to attend camp due to COVID-19 screening protocols will receive a prorated refund after three missed days.
Health and safety practices at camp will build on the guidelines Gordon has used while providing full time on-campus learning for all grades this school year. Gordon's twelve-acre campus, with spacious outdoor environments and well-ventilated, air-conditioned indoor spaces, allows flexibility all summer long.
Some of Gordon's safety practices include:
Everyone on Gordon's campus will be asked to complete a daily health screening and submit the results before coming to campus, and a nurse will be on site every day.
Campers will learn and play in groups that will remain stable throughout the session, led by the same, dedicated staff members. Groups will remain distanced from one another and have their own indoor and outdoor spaces reserved for their own use.
Masks will be worn by all while on campus, with supervised mask breaks as needed. Campers will be distanced from each other and wear face shields while eating snacks and lunches. Regular hand washing will be built into daily schedules and encouraged as often as needed.
Campers will bring their own lunches, snacks, sunscreen, and water bottles.
Families should be prepared to pick up their camper in a timely manner if their camper develops COVID-19 symptoms during the camp day.
More details about policies and procedures will be finalized and communicated closer to the start of camp to assure that we are following the latest guidance from the Rhode Island Department of Health.
Feel free to contact Jenny Alario, Director of After School and Summer Programs, if you have any questions about health and safety measures at camp: email@example.com or 401-434-3833 ext. 142.
Our plans for summer 2021 draw on Gordon’s experiences hosting safe, joyful learning on campus every day since September. If the past year has taught us anything, though, it is that we should allow for unexpected challenges, and summer 2021's plans may change. We can guarantee, though, that we will communicate with families as clearly and quickly as possible, and we will keep the community’s safety as our number one priority.
