Specialty Middle Camps

Specialty Middle Camps allow campers from fifth to eighth grade to customize their camp days based on their interests. Morning, afternoon and full-day specialty camps in athletics, art, engineering and more are available. (See offerings for campers entering Kindergarten through fourth grade here.) Weekly schedules will also include outdoor time, water play, sports, games, and other activities.

Families who register a camper for two half-day camps (morning and afternoon) during the same week will get $45 off their full-day price. (Discount does not apply to full-day camps or off-campus programs.)

During the holiday week of July 6th, join us for Quest for the Cup, a full-day program that brings campers of all ages together for joyful, exciting competition. (Please note that Quest for the Cup runs Tuesday to Friday; there is no camp Monday, July 6th.) Read more about all our camps below.

Disc Divers - New!
Fifth to eighth grade
8am-12pm June 22nd to 26th
Led by Huey Lincoln, Gordon teacher

Would your music-loving camper like to learn more about being a DJ? In this exciting new program, we’ll explore all kinds of music and the world of DJ production. Campers will dive into albums and artists while we consider the ways in which music is made. Hands-on experience with DJ equipment, vinyl records, and a record player will prepare our aspiring DJs to throw their own signature dance party for campers on Friday, where they’ll curate the playlist and vibe to create a fun and unique experience. $250 (half day)


All Things Dungeons and Dragons
Fifth to eighth grade
Two one-week sessions: 12-4pm June 22nd to 26th and August 3rd to 7th
Led by Emma Platt, Gordon alum

Are you ready for epic adventures this summer? For campers who enjoy D&D, this is your one-stop shop to play, imagine, and create. Campers will not only engage in game playing but also explore character creation and development through creative writing, world building projects, and collaborative group work. $230 (half day)


Artful Explorations: 2D Painting and Printmaking - New!
Fifth to eighth grade
12-4pm June 22nd to 26th
Led by Lu Adami, Gordon teacher

Throughout this painting and print-making class, campers will explore 2-dimensional creation as a way to represent the world around them. Each day will emphasize a different painting or printmaking process. As we utilize water-soluble materials like acrylic paint and block printing ink, we will discuss ways of looking through depictions of our surroundings. Campers will work through their projects in each material while learning proper techniques and utilizing the elements of art. Each artist will leave the workshop with several unique works! $250 (half day)


Camp Cook-off
Fifth to eighth grade
8am-12pm June 29th to July 3rd
Led by Chef Matt Allen, Food Service Director SAGE Dining Services at Gordon School

If you’ve ever wanted to enter “Kitchen Stadium” or get “Chopped,” this camp is for you! Campers will learn about ingredients and how to combine them in exciting food challenges. Working individually and in small groups, campers will compete to conceive of and create a variety of dishes using kitchen tools and appliances. See you at the Judges' Table! $275 (half day)


Strategy Games - New!
Fifth to eighth grade
12-4pm June 29th to July 3rd
Led by Emma Platt, Gordon alum

How sharp are your tabletop tactics? In this new program, campers will master modern classics like Dominion, 7 Wonders, and Ticket to Ride, while testing their long-term planning skills in the legendary world of Risk. It’s the perfect environment to sharpen decision-making, forge friendships, and discover the thrill of outsmarting the competition! $250 (half day)


Lights, Camera, Create - New!
Fifth to eighth grade 
12-4pm June 29th to July 3rd
Led by Lu Adami, Gordon teacher

As part of a team, campers will develop a foundation of knowledge on film-making. Using accessible, MacOS-based equipment, campers will explore screen-writing, digital filming, editing on iMovie, and post-production techniques. The skills that campers build here will help them focus their own perspectives and see with the eyes of a film director. $250 (half day)


Quest for the Cup
Nursery to eighth grade
8am-4pm July 7th to 10th (no camp on July 6th)

Join us for four fun days filled with engaging team-based games, activities, competitions, and missions with one goal in mind…to secure the Golden Gordie Cup! Campers will be placed into groups based on their grade levels. Within each of these groups, campers will be further divided into color groups. In our daily activities, campers will bank points for their color groups. Points can be earned in so many ways–team spirit, cooperation, scoring a goal, completing a mission, solving a puzzle, helping others, and more. Campers will work together indoors and outdoors–all across Gordon’s campus–as they earn points for their colors and support their friends along the way. We’ll track each color’s point totals throughout the week and announce the group with the most points at the end of the week in a camp-wide celebration. Only one question remains…campers–are you ready to conquer the Quest for the Cup?!? $335 (full day)


The Business of Babysitting
Fifth to eighth grade
8am-12pm July 13th to 17th

Are you an aspiring babysitter or a babysitter who would like to improve their skills? This program will cover it all--the basics of infant and childcare, age-appropriate activities that are fun AND safe, caregiver communication, managing challenging situations, and more. Included in this program is certification through the Child and Babysitting Safety course, provided by CPR and Safety Classes of Rhode Island. With the opportunity to role play different childcare scenarios, speaking to caregivers, and working with first aid treatments, The Business of Babysitting will prepare you for anything! $330 (half day)


Comics: Ink and Script - New!
Fifth to eighth grade
8am-12pm July 13th to 17th
Led by Lu Adami, Gordon teacher

Campers in this workshop will each create a miniature (or one-shot!) comic while learning about comic styles from around the world. Come with an idea or develop one together! We will explore different materials like graphite, marker, and watercolor as our stories unfold. Campers will grow their storytelling abilities, practice their drawing skills, and walk away with knowledge about comic-making to use in future stories. $245 (half day)


Survivor - New!
Fifth to eighth grade 
12-4pm July 13th to 17th

What might you do in an emergency situation? Learning outdoor survival skills is important and can also be fun! Our campers-turned-survivalists will explore what to do in a variety of scenarios in this team-based study of real-world survival skills. Campers will practice crucial skills such as knot tying, water purification, and compass navigation. With each activity, campers will problem solve together to determine how to compete with Mother Nature and the unexpected. $295 (half day)


Grow, Create, Connect: Garden Camp - New!
Fifth to eighth grade 
8am-12pm July 20th to 24th
Calling all young gardeners, builders, artists, and nature-lovers! This hands-on summer camp invites students to spend their days in the Gordon Community Garden exploring how gardens grow, change, and support our community. Campers will engage in age-appropriate activities that may include planting and harvesting, garden care and maintenance, simple garden-to-table experiences, creative garden art, and small design or building projects using natural and found materials. Guided by the interests of the participants, the program will emphasize curiosity, collaboration, and learning through doing. Campers will develop practical skills, deepen their connection to the outdoors, and contribute meaningfully to the ongoing growth and care of the community garden. Throughout the camp, time will be balanced between structured activities and open-ended exploration, allowing space for creativity, problem-solving, and discovery. This camp is ideal for students who enjoy being outside, working with their hands, and learning where food comes from, while helping shape a living space that will continue to grow long after summer ends. $250 (half day)


Restaurant Run
Fifth to eighth grade 
Two one-week sessions: 12-4pm July 20th to 24th and August 10th to 14th

Interested in learning more about the restaurant business, local establishments, AND delicious food? Join us in the off-campus venture to local restaurants to experience a variety of foods while we get to know some of the people behind the kitchens and operations of these fantastic eateries. Transportation is included for this camp. $315 (half day)


Boys+ Basketball Camp
Second to eighth grade 

9am-3pm (free play/open gym available from 8-9am and 3-3:30pm) July 27th to 31st
Led by: Kristen Jones, behavior specialist, youth coach, former collegiate and Gordon coach, and multi-sport athlete

Basketball is a team sport! While many athletic camps emphasize individual skill building and game play strategy, participants at Gordon will not only learn and develop the fundamentals of basketball and have multiple opportunities to practice those skills in games, they will also experience what it means to be a valued member of a team. This program will also highlight the contributions that people of all gender identities have made in the world of basketball. Each day will include station work, mini-clinics, a variety of game play situations and appropriate rest and downtime between sessions in which these players are competing and working so hard! All campers who identify as boys or non-binary are welcome to participate. Schedules will also include outdoor time, water play, sports, games, and other activities. $395 (full day)


Rowing with Narragansett Boat Club - New!
Sixth to eighth grade
9-11am (campers can be dropped off as early as 8:30am) July 27th to 31st

Come learn to row at the Narragansett Boat Club! Our camp is managed by professional coaches and staffed by current and former junior rowers who bring enthusiasm and knowledge of rowing to athletes just starting their rowing career. Campers will be introduced to the sport through both on water and land instruction. They will learn the foundation of the stroke as well as have meaningful experiences in multiple boat classes. Camp is the perfect way to try the sport! Drop off and pick up is at the Narragansett Boat Club, 2 River Road, Providence. $300 (half day)


Hand Sewing and Crocheting - New!
Fifth to eighth grade
12-4pm July 27th to 31st

Join us in the Stitch & Hook Workshop, dedicated to middle schoolers of all experience levels to create in community. From learning about the “stitch of the day” to creating their own custom pieces, campers will develop hands-on skills in a fun, social environment. It’s the perfect opportunity for makers to express their personal style while developing patience and precision through textile art. $275 (half day)


Girls+ Basketball Camp
Second to eighth grade 
9am-3pm August 3rd to 7th (free play/open gym available from 8-9am and 3-3:30pm)
Led by Denise Williams, Gordon Lower School teacher and youth coach, and Jacqueline Faulise, Gordon coach, teacher, and alum

Basketball is a team sport! While many athletic camps emphasize individual skill building and game play strategy, participants at Gordon will not only learn and develop the fundamentals of basketball and have multiple opportunities to practice those skills in games, they will also experience what it means to be a valued member of a team. The camp will focus particularly around girl identity by highlighting elite women's basketball programs–the opportunities that exist through college basketball and the WNBA. It will also highlight the contributions that people of all gender identities have made in the world of basketball. Each day will include station work, mini-clinics, a variety of game play situations and appropriate rest and downtime between sessions in which these players are competing and working so hard! All campers who identify as girls or non-binary are welcome to participate. Schedules will also include outdoor time, water play, sports, games, and other activities. $395 (full day)


Met Links Junior Golf Camp
Fifth to eighth grade 
8am-12pm August 3rd to 7th

This week-long program, led by Luke Dermody, Director of Golf and PGA Associate, with assistance from supporting staff, will introduce kids to the great game of golf. Campers will learn the basic skills behind driving, chipping and putting and will have the opportunity to play on the actual golf course. The camp will also emphasize life skills that go hand in hand with golf, such as patience and integrity. Met Links will provide clubs for any campers who need them. Drop off and pick up is at Met Links in East Providence. $275 (half day)


LEGO Challenge - New!
Fifth to eighth grade 
8am-12pm August 10th to 14th

Brickmasters, are you up to the challenge? Campers’ ingenuity and engineering savvy will be on full display as they plot their way through challenges large and small over the course of the week. A week-long project will offer campers the chance to think critically and creatively, and smaller “micro-challenges” will keep minds and fingers nimble every day. For builders of all experience levels, this is a camp to ignite creativity and provide meaningful time for social interactions. $245 (half day)
