The Gordon School

What are you reading?

A random sample of eighth grade independent reading

A random sample of eighth grade independent reading illustrated the range of Gordon students’ interests - and the depth of our library’s collection.

There were dragons! Thrillers! Superheroes!

There were dogs fighting industrial espionage!

There was historical fiction! Dystopia! Science fiction! Mystery! Mortality! Magical realism!

There were tales of resistance! Tales of oppression! Tales of high school drama!

There were titles from 1968! From 1984! From 2011! From this summer!

There were sad tales and funny tales, frightening ones and inspiring ones.

Thanks to Gordon’s librarians for guiding these students through the collection, thanks to Middle School leadership for making room for independent reading in the academic week, and to the authors who created what eighth grade's Section B was reading yesterday, including:

New Kid (Jerry Craft)
Camino Island (John Grisham)
They Call Me No Sam (Drew Daywalt)
The Complete Maus (Art Spiegelman)
Ready Player One (Ernest Cline)
Slouch (Christina Wyman)
Miles Morales Spider-Man (Jason Reynolds)
The House on Mango Street (Sandra Cisneros)
Girl in the Blue Coat (Monica Hesse)
By the Pricking of my Thumbs (Agatha Christie)
They Both Die at the End (Adam Silvera)
Unravel Me (Tahereh Mafi)
Dragonborn (Struan Murray)
