The Gordon School

Welcome back

Faculty and staff return to Maxfield Avenue

We're back! It was a Gordon family reunion as faculty and staff returned to campus this week.

Back-to-school meetings began Tuesday with an orientation for new faculty and staff (above). The newest members of the community were joined by administrators and teammates for a day of conversation about the school's mission and culture.

For the rest of the week, teachers and staff strategized, collaborate, and attend peer-led workshops on math instruction, the school's strategic vision, and "advancing a culture of feedback at Gordon."

The week included a daylong workshop with psychologist and educator Dr. Keith Hinderlie. His return to Gordon followed up on a series of interviews and focus groups he did with Gordon fourth grade and Middle School students last spring. His assessment was, in turn, part of the work of an ongoing task force of Gordon parents, teachers and administrators, aimed at assessing—and improving—Gordon’s ability to meet the needs of Black and Brown boys.

The new year begins Wednesday, September 1st at 8:15am. In addition to the new faculty and staff, there will be seventy-eight new students on campus, sixty from families who are new to Gordon. These families found Gordon from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York, California, North Carolina, Maryland, and Georgia.
