The magic is happening

In the quiet of late July, there was a loud and joyful celebration at Gordon today to celebrate the new picture book, Magic will Happen, and all of the work done this year to celebrate Frances Martindale, the retiring Director of the Joukowsky Family Library.
 

It was the first time many of the participants met another, and the first time Frances gathered with both Mariahadessa Ekere Tallie and Laurel Aylesworth, the author and the illustrator of Magic Will Happen.
 

More firsts: the assembled crowd got to hear Mariahadessa read the book aloud for the first time, and they shared the powerful sight of watching Frances hear the story for the first time. 
 

Magic Will Happen shares the story of Joy, a young student who discovers the magic that can happen in a library as she gets to know her new librarian, Ms. Martindale.
 

It’s as a book that will resonate with any young reader, but today’s audience could not help but yelp with delight at the alligators, architectural flourishes, and other winks at Gordon life - Joy’s teacher is named Ms. Arias - that Laurel and Mariahadessa wove throughout.
