The Blizzard of 2026

How Gordon weathered a historic storm

The Blizzard of 2026 kept Gordon closed for three days. The fifth and sixth grade newspaper filed this report from the comfort of their homes:

This has been the biggest snowstorm in Rhode Island’s documented history!

The most snow we had before was 28.5 inches.

Now, in some places there is over three feet of snow!

All over the Northeast, people have been losing power, and getting stuck!

We have gotten more snow this winter than in the last four years. The last time we had a substantial amount of snow (other than this year) was in 2022, and even then we only got nineteen inches of snow.

This has been a true Nor’easter.

In other news...

A Gordon dad was written up in the Projo in a piece about professions that don’t get snow days.

A seventh grade sleepover got mentioned in the New York Times coverage of the snow.

...and those seventh graders made themselves useful digging a Providence Police car out of the snow.

A scrapbook

Families sent Mr. Griffin dozens of photos and videos.

Vertical videos are collected above, including snowboarding down city streets and some snowy highdives.

Horizontal videos are here, including some daring tunnel sledding.

And the photos are collected here.

Special thanks to Eddy Dalo, Sara McEntee and the rest of the team who got the campus ready for our return on Thursday.
