Taking young scientists seriously

Celebrating twenty years of the Creamer Science Lab

Gordon takes young scientists seriously.

They have questions about the world. They have the imagination to think of answers. And, in the Creamer Science Lab, they have the space to test their theories.

Science instruction at Gordon begins at age three. By first grade, students are coming to the lab once every four days. From Nursery to fourth grade, the lessons build on one another.

It’s one coordinated curriculum. It’s all taught out of this one room.

They revisit themes and skills over the years. One by one, the pieces fall into place.

In Middle School, science will be taught in more traditional disciplines. They will tackle biology, physics, sustainability, chemistry, one by one. For each one, they’ll draw on strategies they learned in Lower School.

And they’ll have one essential advantage: the confident, playful approach to science that they picked up in the Creamer Science Lab.

Gordon’s Creamer Science Lab celebrated its twentieth anniversary in January.

Happy birthday to the lab, and congratulations to the hundreds of young people who discovered science there.
