Spreading the word
Taking to the airwaves with the story of the Civil Rights Trip
Thank you to Luis Hernandez, James Baumgartner and the staff at the Public’s Radio for hosting Gordon this morning for a conversation about Gordon’s Civil Rights Trip.
Matt Shumate of the Class of 2005 joined humanities teacher Viva Sandoval and a Gordon eighth grader for an extended conversation about the trip, which is in its twenty-fourth year, and its impact on generations of Rhode Islanders.
Matt brought along his scrapbook from the trip. Our eighth grader had begun hers this morning.
Part of the conversation was about the value of doing this trip year after year, decade after decade: how it has evolved, and how the core lessons connect Gordon graduates across the years.
It was a great bookend to a trip that began, at 4am last Monday, with coverage on all three local news channels.
