above: these seven seventh and eighth graders, above, will be part of the 2019 Rhode Island Music Educator's Junior All State Festival.
The seven were among the over nine hundred seventh, eighth and ninth graders from throughout the state who auditioned earlier this month.
Each student's audition consisted of performing required repertoire, sight-reading, tonal memory for singers, and scales and arpeggios for instrumentalists.
The seventh graders will learn and practice four or five pieces of challenging music, attend rehearsals in February and two eight-hour days in March, and then perform at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Providence on Sunday, March 17th. Because of a conflict with the annual Civil Rights Trip, the eighth grade students will not be able to participate this year.
Six Gordon graduates also made it into the festival: Ella Bogdahn '17, Charlie Callahan '17, Dimitri Daskalopoulos '18, Maddie Lee '16, Evelyn McAdam '17, Henry Stanton '16 and Mika Vanelli '15.
More Gordonians in the arts

The singers were incorporated as singers throughout the show, as carolers but also as funeral singers. Trinity Rep's Rebecca Noon gave the context for this partnership on Trinity's blog.
Members of Gordon's handbell ensemble have been invited to participate in a Memorial Vigil for Victims of Gun Violence on Thursday, December 13th, at the First Unitarian Church, 1 Benevolent St. Providence, at 7:00 pm. This is Gordon's sixth year participating in this event, and the relationships formed at this event have helped fuel learning far beyond the reach of this one night.
