Remembering Noel Field, Jr.

Friend of Gordon with deep roots at the school

A longtime friend of Gordon, Noel Field, Jr., passed away on June 12th.

Noel's father was in Gordon's first graduating class in 1917. The family's relationship with Gordon was rekindled in 2005 when Noel found his father's diploma and brought it to Gordon, where it still hangs in the front offices. When his grandsons Sam Ingalls '15 and Luke Ingalls '13 came to Gordon, Noel and his daughter Ellie both became active volunteers: Noel's most visible volunteer role was as an advocate for grandparent participation in the Gordon Fund, and Ellie continues to serve as a library volunteer helping with the Karla Harry Visiting Author program.

His obituary, which appeared today in the Providence Journal, stated that he and his the late wife Phyllis will be remembered together at a private ceremony for immediate family. "In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to The Noel Macdonald Field Fund at the Rhode Island Foundation or to The Butler Hospital Memory and Ageing Program, where Noel had been participating in research for Alzheimers.
