Preparing for a year of love and justice

Faculty and staff return to campus

Faculty and staff returned to campus this week for five days of meetings, planning, and professional development.

Conversations included team gatherings, affinity group discussions, and a morning dedicated to thinking about sustaining a school rooted in love and justice. How do our practices allow each student to feel seen, honored and affirmed while they are here?

A highlight of day three was an energizing ninety-minute workshop with educator and dancer Rodney López.

Rodney led an eye-opening conversation about classroom practice and healthy expectations, drawing on his long career teaching social dance to middle schoolers.

Then, things got real as the faculty and staff took to their feet, struck up dance position, and connected with one another through a quick few rounds of the merengue.

Another question, from this workshop: if Gordon had a theme song, what would it be? A playlist of the responses is at www.gordonschool.org/themesong
