Pat Jennings remembered

It is with great sadness that Gordon recognizes the passing of Pat Jennings, who taught at Gordon for thirty-seven years.

Pat joined the Gordon community in 1981 and when she retired in 2018, Gordon’s mailbox and inboxes were flooded with stories, memories, and letters in her honor. Her thoughtfulness, care, and sense of humor were among her most praised attributes. But what most stood out was the deep and authentic connection that her students–across generations–felt with her. Her classroom was both a haven and a launching pad for hundreds of children. Those who worked with Pat knew her as a master educator and a cherished mentor.

In her retirement, Pat remained close to her Gordon colleagues, the school, and her former students, returning to campus often to reconnect.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Church at 12 Marlborough Street in Newport, RI on Wednesday, April 23 at 4:00PM. Her full obituary is now online.

In lieu of flowers, Pat’s family requests that gifts in her memory may be made to Gordon, through mail at 45 Maxfield Ave, East Providence, RI, 02914 or through www.gordonschool.org/give (indicate that the gift is in Pat’s memory). All gifts will be directed to the Gordon Fund for Economic Diversity, an area of Gordon's mission that meant a great deal to Pat.
