¡Más que palabras!

The 2025 Día de Celebración de Culturas Hispanas y Latinas

Today’s Día de Celebración de Culturas Hispanas y Latinas drew in every corner of the school.

The day was titled ¡Más que palabras! - More than words! - and went far beyond Spanish vocabulary.

Students in every grade stretched their knowledge of los culturas hispanas y latinas and of español while dancing, singing, drumming, playing, crafting, cooking, creating and connecting with one another.

Each workshop leader shared the names and the stories shared the names and stories of the elders who introduced them to family traditions.

And throughout the day, there was a strong sense that, just by participating in these traditions, these students can help them continue to flourish.

Ask a Young Kindergarten student how to play Juegos de Palmadas.

Ask a second grader about la migración de la mariposas monarca.

Ask a fifth grader how they like pupusas.

Ask a seventh grader if they prefer bachata o flamenco.

You may not get an expert answer.

But you will get an enthusiastic one.

Thanks to all of our workshop leaders, who included Mariana Paes, Johny Gonzalez, Brandon Contreras, Ana Cecilia Iraheta y Roberto Arias as well as experts from Gordon’s faculty and staff.
