Making their mark on the world

Week one with Kah Yangni, this year’s Britt Nelson Visiting Artist

Kah Yangni’s artist talk, originally scheduled for today, has been rescheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday the 14th from 2:30 to 3:10.

While the talk is directed towards Lower School students, parents, caregivers, faculty and staff are all welcome.

Guests can expect an overview of Yangni’s career in printmaking, illustration, and murals, and using art as a tool for building communities.

They can also get a sense of the work Yangni has done with students during their first week together.

Yangni will work directly with every grade at Gordon over the course of their residency.

All of Lower School has already learned how to make stencils and to use them to make layered images, and have begin designing their own.

Fifth and sixth grades are designing and making their own stickers, coming soon to a laptop case near you.

Early Childhood will begin making books tomorrow.

And the seventh and eighth grade art electives are creating a sculptural installation.

The piece is still in development, but the theme is settled: “We take care of ourselves and each other.”

There’s a wide range of media represented.

But the projects all point towards one theme: using art to share one’s ideas widely and publicly.

From books to stencils and stickers and sculpture, these students are learning how to make a mark on the world.
