Love in the seventh grade

Author Kwame Alexander was on NPR a few weeks ago. link

Gordon students know him from his visit in November. link

On the radio, he challenged listeners to write poems for him.

His prompt? "Love is..."

Gordon seventh graders took him up on it. link

For their inspiration, they read "Praise Song for the Day", which Elizabeth Alexander wrote it for Barack Obama's first inauguration. Eighth grade used the same poem last week

These students have a habit of showing one another love.

For every poem they write, they share positive feedback.

This week, they did it in the form of small red hearts, attached to each poem.

These are all on display in the Commons this week.
