Young Kindergarten experiences the power of a poem
Young Kindergarten began the day discovering that the duck nest they have been observing was raided by a predator.
Poetry was right there for them as a tool to process this news; today is National Poem in Your Pocket Day, being celebrated across the campus.
After reading some poems and learning more about the power of poetry, they contributed to a group poem.
They also learned that grief can be complex, and take time. Several of them spent time at recess making and disassembling pretend nests, and they know it is normal if they continue to think and talk about this experience in the days ahead.
Note: there was not actual blood in the nest, but it seems Young Kindergarten has learned about poetic license.
