Exploring tataki-zomé as Young Kindergarten prepares for the meal of gratitude
Sound up. This week, Young Kindergarten harvested flowers, herbs and plants from Gordon’s gardens, and use them to dye reusable napkins.
They used a process called tataki-zomé or flower pounding to create prints on napkins which will be used to invite some Gordon faculty and staff to Young Kindergarten’s meal of gratitude later this month.
The meal of gratitude is an annual extended lesson that draws in literacy lessons as students write invitations and place cards, and math involved in meal planning and cooking, all couched in a celebration of the adults who help take care of this community.
