Gratitude inspires five-year-olds’ best work

Young Kindergarten meal is culmination of weeks of planning

Young Kindergarten hosted a meal of gratitude on Friday, the culmination of weeks of planning.

The meal of gratitude pulled together dozens of skills Young Kindergarten has developed this fall, including:

defining gratitude

considering their place in the Gordon community

developing a guest list

writing invitations

harvesting flowers from their garden

presenting their invitations, and the flowers, to their invitees

planning a menu

compromising on important decisions

managing multiple projects

making ingredients lists

reading recipes

counting and measuring ingredients

practicing basic food safety

graciously greeting guests, and

making sure guests are comfortable and well-fed.

The meal drew visitors from the press, as well, and students got to experience the thrill of chatting with journalists.

Coverage from Nicola Petrucci of ABC6 News and David DelPoio from the Providence Journal is below.

@providencenews A Kindergarten class had a special lunch celebration to practice gratitude. They helped pick out the menu and cook their meal, as well as invite faculty they were grateful for. #interview #kidsinterview #greatful #lemonandlime #kidsreactions ♬ original sound - Providence Now
