Local and national media were reaching out to Gordon leaders as back-to-school season approached.

Providence Monthly and Rhode Island News Today both went straight to the source when they were looking for tips on preparing young children for the first day of school.
Cendhi Arias Henry, Gordon’s Early Childhood Director, shared plenty of wisdom with both outlets. The RI News Today piece is here and Providence Monthly’s is here.

Parenting blog Scary Mommy connected with Gordon for a feature about how to support students during a time when many schools face new restrictions on what stories, identities and histories can be included in the curriculum.

Gordon’s Assistant Head for Teaching and Learning Alethea Dunham-Carson spoke up for the importance of parents using their voices to serve as advocates - as a way to create change, but also as a way to serve as a model for children.

“It is crucial that your child knows that they are safe,” she told parents. “They need to hear that you have their back. They need to know that you will always advocate for a world where no one will be able to stop them from loving who they love, from admiring whom they admire, and from dreaming of ways they want to help make the world better. They should have the opportunities to witness that you want these experiences not only for them, but for everyone.”

The full piece has more from Alethea and other educators and advocates, and is online here.
