Day four of the 2024 Civil Rights Trip

Atlanta and the young activists of the New Georgia Project

In 2020, Georgia’s presidential election was decided by 12,000 votes.

Since 2021, the New Georgia Project registered 100,000 new voters.

For the past three days, the eighth graders had been immersed in the history of the civil rights movement, and explored how systemic inequalities of the past extend into the present day.

By the fourth day of the Civil Rights Trip, Gordon’s eighth graders were eager to begin making a change in the world.

The young professionals of the New Georgia Project provided a powerful example.

They are making their livings by making a difference.

In the offices of the New Georgia Project, students learn about the practical work of present day community organizing.

They also get to connect with a variety of professionals, all young people themselves, who are making their living pursuing social justice, defending civil rights, and promoting public health.

This visit offered proof that change is possible.

Change can be lasting.

And, judging by the young people of the New Georgia Project, change looks like fun.
