Congratulations to Oge Mora

Congratulations to Providence author and illustrator Oge Mora, who won two prestigious honors announced at today's American Library Association meeting in Seattle. more on that

 

She won the 2019 Coretta Scott King John Steptoe New Talent Illustrator Award, and her book, Thank You, Omu, was named a Caldecott Honor Book.

 

Mora connected with Gordon students in November when she spent the day with Kindergarten, first and second grades, on what was her first-ever school visit. more on that

 

Her visit, and her work, continues to echo through the curriculum; second grade work inspired by Thank You, Omu, is hanging in the Commons, the book was re-read as part of Friday's teach-in, and second graders are considering Thank You, Omu, for this year's Gordon School Multicultural Picture Book Award.
