Battle of the Books

The annual fourth grade Battle of the Books includes a school cheer that weaves together as many books as possible from the thirty-book Battle list.

Before the Gordon cheer this year, a fourth grader dedicated the performance to longtime librarian Frances Martindale, who is retiring at the end of this year. This moment was the first in what will likely be many tributes this spring, including a celebration open to all on Friday, May 29th. More on that at www.gordonschool.org/frances

The Battle brings together fourth graders from area schools for some friendly competition and a chance to connect around a shared love of reading.

To prepare, each student reads from a list of thirty books from a variety of genres. At the Battle, they’ll deliver their Battle Cheer, then they’ll split up into teams and compete alongside their peers from other schools in a fast-paced quiz.
