A visit on the eve of Book Fair

Author and friend of Gordon Supriya Kelkar meets with second and third grade

Author and friend of Gordon Supriya Kelkar shared this video greeting in anticipation of next week’s Book Fair, which will include a celebration of the Joukowsky Family Library’s twentieth anniversary and in-person workshops with a half-dozen authors and illustrators.

Kelkar Zoomed into Gordon today to accept the 2022 Gordon School Multicultural Book Award, and speak to second graders as part of their yearlong study of the picture book. Part of their work will be to choose the winner of the 2023 GSMPA: developing criteria, making a list of nominees, debating the candidates and selecting the winner.

Kelkar has worked with Gordon students a number of times over the years since her visit in 2019, when she spoke with seventh graders who had just completed their own first novels as part of National Novel Writing Month.

Next week, Gordon will welcome authors and illustrators into classrooms to work with all ages as part of the annual Book Fair. The week will include a public talk with publishing pioneers Cheryl and Wade Hudson, Wednesday the 7th at 6:30, preceded at 6pm by a birthday party recognizing the twentieth anniversary of the Joukowsky Family Library.
