A time to shine

Risks that pay off at the winter assembly

At Gordon, students learn to be confident risk-takers.

This superpower was on full display at this Friday’s all-school assembly, where students from first to eighth grade performed sang, clapped, hummed, strummed, clanged, beat and blew their way through the music they had been practicing in class since September.

The risk-taking began with the school song, traditionally led by a soloist drawn from the community.

Then, the performances ranged from the G-Notes take on Billy Eilish’s “When the Party’s Over” to the seventh and eighth grade band playing Bon Jovi’s ”Living on a Prayer.”

The Billy Eilish left the audience hushed.

The Bon Jovi had them dancing in the aisles.

These very different impacts both demonstrated the command these students have of the stage.

In some schools, these year are the awkward years.

Not at Gordon.
