A neighborhood Thankgiving

Young Kindergarten read Thank You, Omu, by Oge Mora, today.

The story of how a neighborhood shows its gratitude was perfect for the conversation happening in class this week.

Young Kindergarten is planning to host a Thanksgiving dinner this coming Monday.

The six students chose six guests from the Gordon neighborhood to invite.

The class plans to cook the meal themselves on Monday morning.

They cannot promise fine dining, but they do pledge to stick by one of their favorite sayings: "Take chances, make mistakes, get messy."

Oge Mora, the author of Thank You, Omu, is a member of these students' extended neighborhoods. She's a Rhode Islander, a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, and she will be coming to Gordon the week after Thanksgiving to present to first, second and third grade, and sign books from 3:30 to 5pm at the GCA Book Fair. more on the Facebook event page
