Teacher Residents in the Lower School |
The Teacher Residency Program is having a great impact on five of Gordon’s Lower School classes. In the weeks leading up to the winter break, the excitement was building as students expressed their hopes of having a resident teacher in their classrooms for the upcoming term. As the winter term started, the student enthusiasm for and excitement about having a resident in their classroom could be felt throughout the Lower School. The teacher residents bring an added relationship into the classroom that ignites student interest and investment in the learning process. The combination of eager residents and passionate long-time faculty members makes for a classroom atmosphere of dynamic learning for Gordon students. Students look forward to the rich lessons and units jointly developed by Gordon faculty and teacher residents. The synergy of the residents’ desire to learn about teaching and our faculty’s eagerness to mentor new teachers creates an environment in which students, faculty, and residents all reap the benefits of best practices and ongoing development in multicultural education and pedagogy. The students perhaps wouldn’t explain it this way, instead they might just say, “I hope I get the one they had in Ms. Jennings’ class last term.” |
