Every performer needs good management
 
Get out your calendars.
 
Kindergarten and Young Kindergarten perform on May 24th. Students should be there by 6:15. Parents, siblings, friends and extended family should be in their seats by 6:30. The show will end by 7.
 
First and second graders have a recital on May 17th. Students should be in the Lower School Music Room at 6:15, the show begins at 6:30, and everything will be wrapped up by 7:15.
 
Fourth graders are invited to perform at the New Family Gathering, Monday May 21st. This is not a long performance; students would perform at 5:10 and parents should be ready to whisk them away by 5:30.
 
After school music students can perform in a recital May 30th or 31st. Communicate directly with your student's teacher about if, when and what your child will perform.
Library access from home    
Thursday April 26th
Library access is now simpler - the URL is library.gordonschool.org whether you are on campus or if you are not.
 
To access subscription databases, you will still need the secret username and password. It is available via this link, accessible via your Gordon website login.

Parent survey 
The last parent survey, in January, got a 25% response rate.
If this one gets 30%, students will receive a frozen treat later this spring, and you will be a hero to your child.
 
Middle School spirit week

Concussion policy
Gordon has adopted a formal concussion policy, which documents the ways that teachers, staff and coaches respond to head injuries. 
To comply with state regulations, when a student's injury meets certain criteria, the parents will be asked to obtain a physician's permission before the student can participate in PE, athletics or other vigorous activities.

The first of two Carnival Fair Days is next week.

James Reynolds, this year's visiting artist, will be talking about his career and his work at Gordon on Wednesday, April 18th at 7pm.
If you've been to these annual artist talks before, you know how great they are.

Gator Madness?
After spring break, the PE department will once again organize Gator Madness, three energetic and informal afternoons of intramural basketball competition. Middle School students will soon be signing up; email kfraza@gordonschool.org if you have any questions.
 
Spring break is next week
Vacation Camp is on for the first week of break, all five days 7:30-5:30 (with the main programming 9:30-3:00). New details and choices are listed online.
There will not be Gators care the following week, due to low registration.
Gators shall return all day on Monday the 26th (when there will be no classes - will you need Gators?)
 
No bus home this Friday

Action-packed activities give Gordon students (and non-Gordon siblings) a new way to interact with each one another,

The signup form looks a little different, but all of these same things are offered. The hope is that the pricing will be a little clearer.
The only difference is that there is now a 10% discount on Gators and YAP for families who commit to the eight-week period. The discount is included in the prices listed on the form.

It seems Friday bus families are generally up to speed on what they need to know EXCEPT please note that free Gators and YAP coverage is available if there is a gap between your child's dismissal and the time of the bus.

The G Notes, Gordon's Middle School a cappella group, will sing the national anthem at the Providence Bruins game on Friday, February 3rd.

Tomorrow (Friday), Kindergarten to eighth grade will gather for a forty-five minute celebration of Martin Luther King Jr's life.
Parents will not, of course, be turned away, but this is an informal sit-on-the-floor affair with a few singalongs and poetry recitations.

Robotics fifth to eighth grade with Rosemary Colt
Robotics programming is about the fun and excitement of science and technology. For the first time, YAP is offering a once a week robotics building and programming class. Children will learn to engineer and program using the Lego Mindstorms intelligent microcomputer brick, and its intuitive drag-and-drop programming software. No formal competitions, just hands on fun. Every week, a new challenge!

Food drive begins Monday    
Thursday, November 3rd
The Student Leadership Council's annual food drive begins Monday, November 7th.
 
Food will be distributed to local families in need by the East Bay Community Action Program, a nonprofit that relies on Gordon as the lead donor in this effort.
 
Collection bags will be placed by the entrances to the school on Monday, November 7th. The drive runs Thursday, November 17th.

If you dissatisfied with the photos, return the prints to your child's teacher by Monday, November 14th so that your child can get a retake on Wednesday, November 16th.
