Hands on Learning in Early Childhood

Hands-on learning is at the heart of what Gordon pursues in the Early Childhood division.  This is the way students engage in the classrooms, with their teachers and with their fellow classmates. Gordon’s Kindergarteners are busily pursuing a Social Action Project providing winter clothing to needy families. Students used a combination of math skills, teamwork, and service-learning to raise funds, selling more than 1,000 bags of popcorn!

Imagination and creativity are also hard at work in Early Childhood. Students have been exploring the Arctic and learning about life in cold places. Ms. Motta’s class is making their own ice houses, while Ms. Toothaker’s class has created a small army of paper-bag penguins and researching factual information about these interesting animals.  Early Childhood’s Shared Space is in the process of being transformed into a space station as the classes will begin learning about the solar system, rocket ships, and what life is like in space.

And it seems that word is spreading about Gordon’s dynamic multicultural curriculum and nurturing learning environment! The Early Childhood Division has seen an overall 24% increase in applications for its Nursery, Preschool, Young Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes. The Early Childhood team looks forward to welcoming next year’s class of young scientists, mathematicians, athletes, artists, writers, performers, and learners of every kind.

Early Childhood Ages and Stages start February 8th

Ages and Stages

Parents are always interested in wanting to understand the stage of development that their child is experiencing.  Although every child is different there are some universal characteristics of children at different ages and stages.  With that in mind we have created an opportunity for parents to meet with Dr. Judith Gyns, our school psychologist along with Division Director, Maureen Kelly to share an overview of the developmental milestones that your child may be experiencing. As a parent it is comforting to understand and anticipate what is going on as you child is changing and growing everyday.  Ages and Stages is also an opportunity for parents to ask questions, share ideas and suggestions with each other.

Ages and Stages is held in the Atrium at 8:30AM.  The dates for each class is as follows:
