The latest Thursday Gordon News

Popup playdates, grade meetups and more

Popup playdates begin this weekend in Barrington. A full list for the month is in the virtual Commons, www.gordonschool.org/commons

There's much more, too, on the Google calendar - www.gordonschool.org/calendar. All the Zoom links you need are in the virtual Commons. Do you need that link again? It is www.gordonschool.org/commons

Worth repeating

There is no school on Monday, October 11th, due to the federal holiday.

Brother to Brother

Mr. Henry is leading Brother to Brother, a new group for Middle School boys of color, meeting Thursday evenings beginning October 21st. Interested? Learn more, and sign up your child, at www.gordonschool.org/brothertobrother

Brother to Brother is inspired by the findings of a task force of parents, teachers and administrators studying the experience of boys of color at Gordon. This is the task force that brought Dr. Keith Hinderlie to campus over the past nine months, and Ms. Dunham-Carson will be sharing more about their work in the weeks ahead.

Reopening for parents and caregivers

As Dr. Thomas López shared on Sunday, we are reopening the building to parents and caregivers this month.

If you want to use the (indoor, OG) Commons, volunteer on campus or have an in-person parent-teacher conference, you need to take action right away! See the Q&A at www.gordonschool.org/openagain

Wednesday was photo day

Families will get prints in the coming weeks. If you don't like the photo, or if your child missed school yesterday, retakes will be December 1st.

Whether or not you are getting a retake, everyone should order their prints before the weekend to avoid the late processing fee. The link to order is at www.gordonschool.org/photoday.

We are really doing this

The Gordon store hours will be listed in the schoolwide Google calendar.

Here’s the short-term forecast: the store is open next Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 to 9am, and there will be a Spirit Day pop-up sale Thursday afternoon on Engle Field from 3:45-5:15pm.

Spirit Week

Next week is Spirit Week and all are invited to Engle Field Thursday afternoon to cheer on the Field Hockey and Soccer A teams. There will be Del's lemonade, a DJ and a Gordon store pop-up. Children must be supervised by an adult or caregiver and all spectators must be masked.

Lower School and Middle School will also have a pep rally during the day on Wednesday, and there will also be dress up days in Middle School:

Tuesday: Decade dress up day
Wednesday: Backwards day
Thursday: Green and white day
Friday: Pajamas or favorite jersey day

No Fear Friday returns live and in-person!

Ms. Massey writes:

Brave Middle School students are brushing up their singing, ukulele, keyboard and sketch comedy skills along with many other talents. There may even be a bagpipe appearance! The eighth grade leaders in the arts council have a special, spooky set of surprises planned, and are thrilled to be in charge! All families are invited to attend with their children to watch this signature event.

No Fear Friday will take place on the field next to Gordon’s Nelson Field House entrance, with pizza for sale at 4:00pm for hungry performers and audience members. Performances begin at 4:30and the fun will finish by 6:00. All must remain masked except individual performers while singing or speaking, and chairs will be provided to help groups stay safely distanced.

Arts council members and performers may stay through from dismissal until the performance, and will be supervised. Those signed up for Gators, YAP, or athletics must stay with their assigned group. There will be no other childcare provided, so audience members must be picked up at dismissal and return with a caregiver at 4:00 PM.

See you on Friday, October 15th at 4:00 PM. Stay fearless!

Website weirdness watch

The website is undergoing some serious upgrades over the next twenty-four hours.

If you notice dead links or confusing responses from the website, it would be super-helpful if you let Mr. Griffin know by emailing ggriffin@gordonschool.org or texting 401 480 9933.
