When I was in sixth grade in 2010 we did The Sound of Music.
I was the Von Trapp child named Gretl. There were also four other girls who were Von Trapp children. All of us had the time of our lives at practices. Two of the girls were a year older then me and they acted like older sisters.
All of us Von Trapp girls got our own dressing room in Mrs. Reeves' third grade classroom. On one of the performance nights we decided to have a little fun. We were all in our costumes to start the play, but there was still about forty minutes until the play started. One of us found some PE equipment in Mrs. Reeve’s room. So we decided to go out and play some baseball to pass our time.
So here were four Middle School girls playing baseball in the dark of the night, outside, in the old fashioned white costumes. Probably not our smartest idea. But I just remember having the time of my life outside playing baseball with my four ‘sisters’.
Then the person we least expected to see came out of the dark. It was Mr. Wales. Now if it was any other school, we would be thinking, ‘Run, it’s the headmaster!’ But this was no usual head of school. This was Mr. Wales, and he started playing baseball with us.
It was so much fun. Eventually it was time to go in and do the play. But we Von Trapp children will never forget the night we played baseball in old Austrian costumes with the head of school.
