Dear Seventh Grade Families,
As you know, the seventh grade will be going to the Briarwood Marine Science Center located on Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, from Monday, September 26, through Wednesday, September 28. We will leave Gordon at 8:30 am on Monday and return to school by 3:00 pm on Wednesday. The counselors there are excited about our arrival and have a wonderful program planned for us.
Owned by Dexter and Southfield Schools (K-12 independent schools in the Boston area), Briarwood operates as a field station for marine and environmental studies. The programs are designed to immerse students in hands-on exploration, observation, and discovery of the ocean habitat. Students will be engaged in kayaking, specimen collection, and a variety of exciting research projects. Sean Hamer, Alex Rempis, Blinn Dorsey, Kristen Fraza, Andrea Villagran, and Sarah Whinery will be the chaperones.
Please download the equipment list. As with all of our field trips, students are not allowed to bring cell phones, electronic games, iPods, or other music players.
Please download the enclosed Permission Slip for Briarwood. Please sign and return the Permission Slip to your child’s advisor by Monday, September 19.
If the Medical Permissions form that you filled out now for this school year is accurate and up-to-date with all medications that your child will bring on this three-day trip, then you do not need to fill out any additional forms. However, if your child will need to bring medications (prescription or over-the-counter) that you have not listed on this form,
you need to download this form and have it completed by your child’s physician. All forms and medication (in their original containers) must be turned in to the school nurse by Friday, September 23, 2011.
Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s advisor if you have any questions regarding the trip.
Sincerely,
The Seventh Grade Team
