A pineapple grows in preschool
A pineapple grows in preschool
Thursday, September 11, 2003

Early this week, a Preschool teacher shared a very, very fresh pineapple with the Kindergarteners.

This pineapple was grown from a cutting that her class had planted in 1999.

Students had a lively discussion about the fruit that began growing around the same time they were born!

On Tuesday, the Middle School welcomed Lorraine Roberts, the principal of an all girls’ school in Johannesburg, South Africa. Mrs. Roberts is visiting the US to learn more about how schools here deal with issues of race, ethnicity and equity. She met with administrators as well as 6th and 8th grade classes, sharing her experiences even as she learned more about Gordon’s work in these areas.

Gordon’s September 11th assembly included poetry and music as well as the dedicating of viburnum and arborvitae bushes. It is the school’s intention to plant additional shrubs each September 11th, to create a living tribute to peace, freedom, and the tragedy and heroism of September 11th, 2001.
