The school’s science program emphasizes hands-on activities in learning. These activities aim to build skills of questioning, experimentation, research and documentation in developmentally appropriate ways. Concrete experiences are the basis for constructing more abstract science concepts.

Gordon’s facilities, both indoor and outdoor, provide rich opportunities for scientific exploration beginning with the youngest student. By third grade, students are visiting the Creamer Science Lab every week to engage in extended projects that may involve live animals and plants, handmade clocks and rockets, laptops and robots, and the ecosystems of the lab’s courtyard gardens. Beginning in sixth grade, math and science are taught by the same teacher, allowing for rich interdisciplinary instruction.
